Designing A New Studio
I am looking for a new location for my Indianapolis design studio. If you’ve ever spent time looking for lease space for your dental office and planning the layout and design, then you know just how time consuming this can be. While I help my dental clients evaluate office space, plan the layout, and incorporate their branding message into the interior design of their dental practice, I must say that trying to do this for my own business is tedious and distracting from my existing projects. Going through this process just reinforces in my mind that it is important to hire expert consultants to help you along the way. There is so much to consider and emotions can run rather high, that asking for help from those that are involved with this process not only reduces the amount of distraction from your core business, in my case designing dental offices and for my clients, taking care of their patients’ oral health, it can really reduce the amount of time and costly mistakes.
As an example, I was working with a new dentist last spring that was looking to open her own office. She had found a small office space that had previously been a dental office prior to the dentist’s passing. We met at the space for a walk-thru and then sat and discussed her wish list items for branding the space to reflect the type of dental practice she wanted to have. Her budget was small, as is the case with many dentists just starting out, and unfortunately, just making the changes that were necessary to bring the space up to code for a 21st century dental practice completely consumed her build-out budget, leaving nothing to rebrand the office. In the end I advised her, that while the rent appeared to be attractive to keep looking for something different. The space she ultimately found suited her needs much better, having been designed as a dental office in only the last 10 years rather than over 30 years ago.
